EVENT CANCELLED!!!!
Due to a combination of problems - mainly the unavailability of helpers and access.
I apologise to anyone who has already made plans around the event. All entrants (only a handfull) should email me at martinbagness@aol.com and will receive a full refund. The fabulous newly-mapped Pike of Blisco area will get its first airing at the Warrior O-Trial in January.

THE 1st MOUNTAIN RINGLET WEEKEND 25/26 JULY 2009
Warrior O.C. and Lakes Runner invite you to two days of high quality, no-frills orienteering on fabulous Lake District terrain!
The ‘bare-bones’ ethos and format of this event has been pinched from the excellent Scottish Purple Thistle weekend: low-key organisation and a laid-back atmosphere, combined with quality terrain and course-planning.
There will be a simple range of courses to choose from, based on length rather than IOF age class. You will be able to start when you choose.
The terrain will feature a mixture of the finest Lakes forest and open moorland, chosen for its lack of summer undergrowth. One of the aims of this event is to open up new areas to the sport, by funding the mapping of new terrain.
This year, the Saturday courses will be Middle Distance in style (ie about 60% of normal, planned with shorter legs). On the Sunday, runners will be encouraged to attempt something a bit longer than they usually run.
Camping at Baysbrown Farm. A field set aside for orienteers on this public campsite.
Other activities – team orienteering featuring an unusual mode of transport is being planned for the Saturday afternoon.
Areas:
Saturday – Esthwaite Intake and Devil’s Gallop, Hawkshead. Planted forest with complex contour detail and mostly good runnability.
Sunday – Pike Of Blisco and Cold Pike, Langdale. A new, specially-mapped area. Intricate, knolly, open terrain with short grass underfoot. Mapping now well under way (April 09).
Courses:
Purple Emperor: 7km / 14km
Black Hairstreak: 6km / 11km
Brown Argus: 5km / 9km
Adonis Blue: 4.5km / 7.5km
Red Admiral: 3.5km / 6km
Small Copper: 45min / 45min (score event suitable for all abilities)
Apart from the score event, all courses will be difficulty level 5. Courses may be sub-divided if entry numbers require.
Online entries open 1/3/09. www.oentries.com
The Scottish 6-Days starts a week later. Why not combine the two events to make it a whole fortnight of the finest orienteering imaginable?
The Mountain Ringlet is a rare and elusive alpine butterfly. The English variety can only be seen at a few mountain top locations in the Lake District, of which Cold Pike (day 2) is one.
